  • John went out yesterday morning at 8 am. (John è partito ieri alle 8 del mattino).
  • Kevin went to visit John at 8.20 am.

  • Kevin went to visit John at 8:20 am but John had already gone out.

Past perfect in frasi affermative

Subject + had + Past participle

Esempi:

  • He was fired before she’d proven himself.
  • She was really active after she had had an energetic drink. (Era davvero attiva dopo aver bevuto una bevanda energetica).
  • He didn’t clean his shoes because he’d forgotten to buy the products.

Subject + had + not + past participle

Esempi:

  • I hadn’t had the chance. (Non avevo avuto la possibilità).
  • It hadn’t snowed for a while before that blizzard arrived.

Past perfect interrogative

La struttura della forma interrogativa è:

Had + subject + past participle.

Esempio:

  • Had you arrived before it happened? (Eri arrivato prima che accadesse?).
  • Had he studied for the test? (Avevi studiato per l’esame?).
  • Had he forgotten? (Si era dimenticato?).
