Firstly, the letter B, whose phonetic transcription is /b/, is pronounced ‘bi’ when it stands alone. When you see it in a word, it will always sound like it does in Spanish, like the B in ‘bueno’ or ‘bruto’. Let’s look at some examples of words in English now. We will start with bat which means ‘murciélago’ but also means ‘bat’ and has this phonetic transcription: /bæt/. Its pronunciation will be ‘bat’, just like if you read it in Spanish. In the case of bib (babero), /bɪb/, it is exactly the same. Now let’s see a longer word, obey (obedecer), /əʊˈbeɪ/, which in Spanish will sound like ‘obei’. As you can see, the only thing that varies is the pronunciation of the other letters in English, the B sounds exactly as it does in Spanish.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR PRONUNCIATION IN ENGLISH

To practice the pronunciation of the letter B we suggest you start with the example words in this post and then you can add Batman, /ˈbæt.mən/, obsolete (obsoleto), /ˌɒb.səlˈiːt/, and obtain (obtener), /əbˈteɪn/, to keep expanding your vocabulary.

We suggest you also pay attention to the pronunciation used by native speakers for these words and others containing the letter B so that you can start recognizing the correct way to say them.

To finish perfecting your pronunciation a good exercise is to record yourself saying the words you want to improve and then listen to the recording to see where you need to correct your way of saying them.
