First of all, the letter M, whose phonetic transcription is /m/, sounds like ‘em’ in Spanish when it stands alone. If it is part of a word, the M will sound like it does in Spanish as in ‘mamá’ or ‘morder’.

Here are some examples. We will start with monster (monstruo) and its phonetic transcription, /ˈmɒn·stər/, which is pronounced ‘monster’, just as if you read it in Spanish. What happens when there are two consecutive Ms like in common (común), /ˈkɒm·ən/? Nothing different; the double M in English sounds like a Spanish M. As we can see, the only thing that varies is the pronunciation of the other letters that make up the English words, but the M always sounds exactly as it does in Spanish.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR PRONUNCIATION IN ENGLISH

Practice the pronunciation of the letter M with the words you have as examples in this article and you can add murder (asesinato), /ˈmɜː·dər/ and summon (citar), /ˈsʌm·ən/, to keep expanding your vocabulary.
