It is very important that you remember that to know how the letter i is written in English, you must pay close attention to the spelling as well as the sounds. Basically, we can say that the i in English has two ways of being pronounced. If we use the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), we will find these two transcriptions: /ɪ/ and /aɪ/. With this knowledge, it will be easy to know which sound you should make when pronouncing the i in a particular word.
THE PHONETIC TRANSCRIPTION OF THE LETTER I IN ENGLISH
As we already told you, unlike the Spanish letter i which has only one way of pronunciation like in ‘indio’ or ‘ingeniero’, the English one has two different ways to be pronounced.
The first case we will review is when the letter i is pronounced ai in English. Generally, if the i appears at the beginning of the word it will most of the time sound ‘ai’ as in islander which means ‘islander’ and whose phonetic representation is /ˈaɪ.lən.dər/; in Spanish we will read it as ‘ailander’. However, there are occasions when even if it’s at the beginning of the word, it sounds like the Spanish i, as in insane (/ɪnˈseɪn/) which is read ‘insein’.
Finally, when it is in the middle of the word, like in singer (/ˈsɪŋ·ər/) it also sounds like the Spanish i: ‘singer’. As you may have noticed, the phonemes of these two variants are very clear in how it would be read in Spanish, /ai/ and /i/, showing how the letter I is pronounced in each case.
HOW TO IMPROVE THE PRONUNCIATION OF THE LETTER I IN ENGLISH
Start practicing the pronunciation of words with the letter i in English such as the examples given in this post and you can also add iceberg (iceberg), /ˈaɪs.bɜːɡ/; ignite (ignite), /ɪɡˈnaɪt/; and finger (finger), /ˈfɪŋ.ɡər/ to further expand your vocabulary.

With the combinations ere: severe (strong), adhere (stick), here (here).
With the combinations ie: fierce (fierce).
